Fees
TasTAFE is committed to upholding the integrity and quality of the international education framework in Australia and remains transparent with the fees and charges that are applied to an international student studying at TasTAFE.
- International students pay tuition fees that are different from domestic student tuition fees. All international student course fees and charges are listed on the TasTAFE website and within marketing information.
- TasTAFE has the right to establish and collect fees from international students, their sponsors and third parties, provided that written consent has been verified.
- TasTAFE will not accept further applications for enrolment from international students who have an existing debt with TasTAFE.
- All fees and charges are in Australian dollars, subject to annual review, and may increase consistently with any Consumer Price Index (CPI) adjustment.
- International students who have signed the Letter of Offer and Acceptance are deemed to have agreed to the terms and conditions of TasTAFE.
Payments
To officially accept their Letter of Offer, international students must complete payment of the Acceptance Fee via one of the below methods. Students are required to make payment of fees and charges by the published due dates, except when they have received approved financial consideration. Please refer to the Letter of Offer for detailed information.
Non-Payment of fees and charges
International students must make payments prior to the due date on the Letter of Offer fees schedule, this is within the Terms and Conditions of Enrolment. If fees remain outstanding 1 (one) business day after the due date and the student has not asked for financial consideration or provided evidence of payment, TasTAFE will being the process to report for non-payment of tuition fees.
International students with unpaid fees will not:
- be able to enrol in any additional study;
- receive a TasTAFE testamur or Statement of Attainment;
- receive a Completion Letter;
- be allowed to official withdraw and be released on Provider Registration and International Student Management System (PRISMS).
Financial Consideration and Support
Enrolled international students may request for financial consideration by completion the Financial Consideration Form (International Education). International students seeking financial consideration will need to complete the process with an International Student Advisor to ensure that all documentation and evidence is submitted in a timely manner. There are no review rights if financial consideration and support is not granted.

TasTAFE will not knowingly accept an international student seeking to transfer from another registered provider’s course prior to the international student completing six months of their principal course, except in particular circumstances.
International students requesting a transfer (withdrawal from TasTAFE) before completing 6-months of their principal course must apply using the Release Request Form (International Education). Along with the request form, the student must provide supporting documentation as prescribed in the application and a valid offer to study from a CRICOS registered provider they considering transfer to.
TasTAFE implements a documented process for accessing students requests for a transfer, and will notify the student of the outcome of an application for transfer within 10 working days of the date of receipt of a complete application (including all requested documents).
If TasTAFE refuses the transfer request, international students have the right to request an independent review this decision by referring to the supporting information on the TasTAFE website and have 20 working days to do so.
International students (or education agents acting on their behalf) may apply to defer, suspend or cancel an enrolment by completing a Deferment or Suspension Request Form or a Withdrawal Request Form.
All applications will be assessed on the basis of TasTAFE’s Terms and Conditions of Enrolment, the international student’s respective study plan, and the initial International Student Application Form submitted.
TasTAFE recommends international students to contact the Department of Home Affairs to seek advice on whether a new visa is required for their suspension or deferment.
An international student’s application for suspension/cancellation of enrolment will be assessed based on supporting documents provided. Reasons for the suspension of an enrolment may include but are not limited to:
- Serious illness or injury, where a medical certificate states that the learner is unable to attend classes;
- Bereavement of close family members such as parents, grandparents or siblings (death or medical certificate to be provided);
- Major political upheaval or natural disasters in home country requiring emergency travel and have impacted on the international student’s studies;
- A traumatic experience, e.g. involvement in or witnessing a serious accident or being the victim of a serious crime. This must be supported by police and/or medical professional reports.
Absences of less than two weeks are classified as a leave of absence and can be approved by the relevant delivery team Education Manager. Absences of more than 2 weeks are defined as a Deferment or Suspension, which require approval by both delivery team Education Manager and TasTAFE International.
TasTAFE will not issue deferments or suspensions exceeding 12-months in total duration.
TasTAFE may suspend or cancel an international student enrolment under the following circumstances:
- A breach of course attendance and progress requirements;
- Absence from their course, without approval for more than two consecutive weeks in a semester;
- Failure to pay the required amount to undertake or continue the course, as stated in the written agreement (Letter of Offer) between TasTAFE and the international student;
- Breach of TasTAFE’s Student Code of Conduct;
- Commit Academic Misconduct with a recommendation to be excluded from the Head of Centre.
Withdrawals
TasTAFE international student may request to withdraw from their studies at TasTAFE at any time after accepting their Letter of Offer.
A withdrawal request is required for a student to:
- Transfer to another CRICOS registered education provider; OR
- Change of visa type; OR
- Withdraw from the course and return home.
International students seeking a withdrawal will need to complete the process with an International Student Advisor to ensure that all documentation and evidence is submitted in a timely manner.
International students intending to withdraw from a course(s) must:
- Complete in writing the Withdrawal Request Form (International Education); and
- Must set out full explanatory reasons for the withdrawal; and
- Support the request with documentation/evidence as may be appropriate; and
- Submit all documentation to international@tastafe.tas.edu.au or through to Client Central.
TasTAFE International staff will reply to students confirming the time and date the request to withdraw has been received. If your withdrawal request is not granted, you will have 20 days to access TasTAFE’s complaints and feedback process to request a review of this decision.
Refunds
TasTAFE may issue a refund of tuition fees under various circumstances where you are unable to continue your studies.
Generally, refunds may be provided in the following situations:
If you withdraw from a course under the specified conditions; or
If TasTAFE cancels a course, and a suitable alternative cannot be arranged for you.
TasTAFE encourages international students to seek support from a TasTAFE International Student Advisor if they are considering a refund request.
To request a refund while withdrawing, international students must complete the Withdrawal Request Form (International Education) request a refund section and submit this to international@tastafe.tas.edu.au
International students may also request a refund for circumstances where they are not intending to withdraw from studies by completing a Refund Request Form (International Education) and submit this to international@tastafe.tas.edu.au
