Whether you are returning to study after a long break, building on the skills you already have, or entering further education for the first time, TasTAFE provides a range of foundation and vocational preparation programs to ensure that you are supported throughout your study.
Our foundation programs are preparatory courses to help you develop your skills and work out your career options, and offer the chance for you to:
- explore options and build confidence before you start your study
- receive extra help in some areas of learning
- help you get back into learning after having had time away from study
- learn or improve your English if you have recently arrived in Australia
- receive more support and time to develop your skills if you have a disability or a learning barrier.
Vocational preparation programs can also include introductory courses such as work experience placements to give you a ‘taste’ of different careers.
Vocational preparation programs
If you have not been able to meet the entry criteria for a course you want to do, or just need some extra skills, enrolling in one of our vocational preparation programs may be a good option for you.
These courses suit a wide range of student needs and can help you to improve your basic literacy, numeracy, study, computer or work skills, prepare for a vocational pathway, return to study, overcome a learning barrier or upgrade your existing skills.

English Language Services
If you would like to develop your English language skills and gain a better understanding of Australian culture, TasTAFE offers a range of courses that can assist you in improving your English for living, working and studying in Australia.
We offer a range of opportunities to improve your English language, including preliminary courses and short courses, through to qualifications at Certificate I – Certificate III level.

Foundation Skills Services
If you’re worried that your reading, writing, maths or computer skills may be a barrier to you completing your qualification, or if you just need some extra skills development practice, TasTAFE has a wide range of services on offer, including small group and 1:1 tuition.
Foundation Skills Services are available for all TasTAFE students, including apprentices and trainees.
