If you are a natural with young children and have a passion for early childhood education – a qualification in Early Childhood Education and Care or Education Support could be just the right career move for you.

There’s nothing better than making a positive difference to the lives of children, and work as an early childhood educator is never dull! Aside from managing daily routines, you’ll be dealing with a wide range of personalities, learning styles and a variety of unexpected challenges. Organisation and communication skills are a must, as you’ll have timeframes to meet, resources to manage and be working closely with people of all ages and backgrounds.

Our courses include a mix of classroom and practical activities. They include work placements in industry settings to help you gain valuable work experience, and provide you with valuable opportunities to establish contacts with potential employers.

Our community will always need great educators, so you’ll be excited to know that there are many interesting and diverse opportunities working in this sector. These include working with children in long day care centres, outside school hours care services and family day care centres, through to being a teacher assistant in kindergartens and schools. Some TasTAFE qualifications also lead into further study at the University of Tasmania and a degree in Education.

Our qualifications in Training and Assessing are designed to provide you with the skills and knowledge you need to deliver training and assessment programs in the vocational education and training (VET) sector, including TAFEs and private Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), as well as secondary colleges with vocational programs.

If you are already working in a VET or workplace training context, we also offer skillsets in presenting. If you are currently working in industry, and are interested in a career change and the opportunity to enter TasTAFE as a ‘Teacher under Supervision,’ the presenting skill set is a great trial to see if this area of training is the right pathway for you!

If you are looking to improve your English, need help with your literacy or numeracy, or want some support in preparing to return to work or study, TasTAFE’s Foundation Skills and English Language Services courses, are just what you’ve been looking for!

We offer a range of vocational preparation programs that are designed to help you develop your confidence and prepare you for the classroom or the workforce. It may be you need help with computing skills, writing and referencing, communication, teamwork or pathway planning, or you might want some guidance to explore work and training opportunities and career planning.

You may also be interested in gaining the skills you need to be an Adult Literacy Tutor and support someone in your community or workplace to develop their literacy and learning skills.

Ask us about our Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) program. It’s designed specifically to help you enhance your employment opportunities by improving your English language, reading, writing or numerical skills. SEE programs are free for eligible job seekers registered with Centrelink or Job Active Services, and you can join at any time of the year.

TasTAFE also offers English Language Services for eligible migrants and international students. Courses include up to five levels of English as a Second or Other Language, the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) and the Young Migrant Education Program (YMEP). Courses focus on topics that will help you in your new life living in Australia, including its people, society, customs and culture.
