This qualification reflects the roles of entry-level vocational education and training (VET) teachers, trainers and assessors, and develops the skills and knowledge needed to understand the VET sector, design learning to meet the needs of learners and enterprises, deliver training, and plan and conduct assessments.

This qualification is suitable if you have vocational qualifications and current experience using that qualification and are looking to conduct structured training and/or assessment using Nationally Recognised Training products.

At TasTAFE, TAE40122 is offered by enrolling separately in the five (5) separate skill sets plus the elective TAELLN421 unit:

TAELLN421 - Integrate core skills support into training and assessment

This elective unit helps trainers and assessors identify and support learners' language, literacy, numeracy and digital literacy (LLND) needs within vocational education and training. You will learn practical strategies to recognise skill gaps, embed foundation skills support into training and assessment, and create a more inclusive learning environment that improves learner confidence, engagement and success.

For the stackable skill set pathway, this unit will be included when you reach the 5th skill set and your enrolment is transferred to the full qualification.

Alternatively, if you have an eligible elective unit from a current Certificate III or above qualification, a credit transfer may be applied. Applicants must be able to provide a verifiable transcript.

Applicants who are unable to apply for a Credit Transfer will need to complete TAELLN421 as a standalone unit at a cost of $299.

Entry

Prior to enrolling in this training program, you must be able to demonstrate an adequate level of language, literacy and numeracy skill, and vocational competency in your proposed teaching and assessing area.

In your application you will need to:

provide evidence of vocational competency in the area in which you intend to teach i.e. Certificate III in Commercial Cookery; Certificate IV in Engineering

provide your resume showing your experience using this qualification

undertake the TasTAFE LLN Assessment achieving an ACSF level 3

Fees, payments and other costs

As the Training and Assessment qualifications and skill sets are commercial courses, a refund will only apply if you formally withdraw 72 hours prior to the commencement of the course. There is no refund once a course has commenced.

Payments can also be spread by enrolling separately in each Training and Assessment skill set. Please refer to the individual TAE skill set pages.

Recognition of prior learning and skills

It makes sense that you should be recognised for the things you already know how to do.

TasTAFE can assess your skills and knowledge based on your previous education, work history or life experience – which may help you to gain your qualification a whole lot faster!

Assessment methods

You will gather and develop the evidence required in a suitable training and assessment environment in your own workplace or a registered training organisation (RTO), using real work activities. Assessment evidence will be obtained and prepared outside of learning times.

You will be provided with detailed assessments once you have commenced the course. For further information on assessment requirements please see the information pack.

Desirable skills & attributes

The following skills and attributes will be useful to students studying this course:

Digital literacy skills, including word processing tasks such as saving, filing and retrieving documents, and completing templates.
Ability to use presentation software such as Microsoft PowerPoint.
Ability to use TasTAFE's Learning Management System (Canvas).
Ability to use communication tools such as email, Zoom and Skype.
Language, literacy and numeracy skills to research, read and interpret information.
Ability to deliver one-on-one and group-based training.
Ability to write a range of workplace and training-related documents.

What you will need

There are different requirements depending on the course you are enrolled in.

Although not required, it is recommended that you have access to a computer with a reliable internet connection. Upon enrolment TasTAFE supply students a Microsoft Office license for the purpose of completing your study; including MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Defender (Internet Security). TasTAFE has computers available for student use during normal business hours, at all major campuses.

For classes, please be prepared with standard items such as pens, notebook or paper, USB.

You may also need to bring specific equipment, tools or personal protective equipment, your teacher will let you know.

For this course, you will need:

a laptop or PC with reliable internet
a webcam
a media headset with microphone

On successful completion of this course you will receive a TAE40122 - Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
