The skill set is designed for experienced workers, supervisors, team leaders and industry professionals who want to confidently train and support others in the workplace.

This nationally recognised skill set provides the foundation skills needed to deliver effective workplace instruction and guide learners through hands-on skill development. You'll learn how to plan and deliver practical demonstrations, support different learning styles, provide constructive feedback, and create positive, engaging learning experiences.

Whether you're stepping into a training role for the first time or looking to formalise the skills you already use every day, this program will help you build the confidence and capability to instruct others effectively in a workplace setting. You'll also gain valuable insight into Australia's Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector, including industry standards, compliance requirements and best-practice approaches to workplace learning.

The skill set covered in this course is derived from units of competency within the broader TAE40122 - Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualification and provides an insight into the full qualification. Successful completion of these units can be used towards the full qualification.

The amount of training provided is only a portion of the overall learning requirement and you are expected to complete additional learning/activities and assessments to complete the program.

Entry

Prior to enrolling in this training program, you must must be able to demonstrate an adequate level of language, literacy and numeracy skill, and vocational competency in your proposed teaching and assessing area. Vocational competence is defined as broad industry knowledge and experience, and may include holding a relevant unit of competency or qualification.

As part of your application, you will need to provide:

Evidence of achieving an ACSF Level 3 through the TasTAFE LLN Assessment.

Evidence of vocational competency in the area in which you intend to teach i.e. Certificate III in Commercial Cookery; Certificate IV in Engineering.

A current CV outlining your experience using this qualification.

A brief statement (word document) outlining where and when you have used of this qualification in industry and demonstrating currency in using this qualification.

As part of the application process, and before being offered a place in the course, a member of our Team will contact you to discuss if this course aligns with your goals and aspirations, and to ensure that you are fully informed and understand the course requirements. This does not apply to apprentices and trainees.

Fees, payments and other costs

Your tuition fees cover the basic materials needed for your course, but may not cover items such as text books, workbooks, uniform, online learning resources or personal protective clothing. Depending on your course, there may also be other expenses that you need to budget for.

For courses undertaken in 12 months or less, you will be invoiced the full course fee (including any other essential fees associated with your course).

*For courses studied over multiple years, your course and other fees will be split over the years of study, with the concession fee being charged on a yearly basis. At the time of enrolment you will be invoiced for the first year’s fees. An invoice will be raised in each subsequent year around the same time as your ‘enrolment anniversary’.

Recognition of prior learning and skills

It makes sense that you should be recognised for the things you already know how to do.

TasTAFE can assess your skills and knowledge based on your previous education, work history or life experience – which may help you to gain your qualification a whole lot faster!

Assessment methods

You will be required to demonstrate your skills in presenting to small groups and in by being observed providing skill instruction to learners.

You will also need to answer a range of knowledge-based questions.

Desirable skills & attributes

The following skills and attributes will be useful to students studying this course:

Digital literacy skills, including word processing tasks such as saving, filing and retrieving documents, and completing templates.
Ability to use presentation software such as Microsoft PowerPoint.
Ability to use TasTAFE's Learning Management System (Canvas).
Ability to use communication tools such as email, Zoom and Skype.
Language, literacy and numeracy skills to research, read and interpret information.
Ability to deliver one-on-one and group-based training.
Ability to write a range of workplace and training-related documents.

What you will need

There are different requirements depending on the course you are enrolled in.

Although not required, it is recommended that you have access to a computer with a reliable internet connection. Upon enrolment TasTAFE supply students a Microsoft Office license for the purpose of completing your study; including MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Defender (Internet Security). TasTAFE has computers available for student use during normal business hours, at all major campuses.

For classes, please be prepared with standard items such as pens, notebook or paper, USB.

You may also need to bring specific equipment, tools or personal protective equipment, your teacher will let you know.
