Health & Community Services
The Health/Aged Care, Disability and Community Services professions make a real difference to real people, so it is important that you have a genuine desire to help others, a strong work ethic, and excellent communication skills.
Employment opportunities across all areas are strong, varied and transferable, and best of all – in high demand!
The sector is currently one of Tasmania’s – and Australia’s – largest employment growth areas, so a qualification in one of these key areas will equip you with all the skills you need to set you on the path to an extremely rewarding career.

Looking for a career change, former journalist, Jane Turner, undertook the Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) at TasTAFE. She says the great teachers, and hands-on practical nature of the course are great preparation for anyone wanting to work in the growing aged care industry.
Following a work placement at Mary Ogilvy Homes during the course, Jane was offered a job with the organisation and now works as an extended care assistant and also helps out in the physiotherapy department.
