Start a rewarding career in the Community Services sector.

The course has a health focus, and will prepare you to work in a variety of health or community service settings. It is a great course to choose if you are thinking about entering or re-entering the workforce and have an interest in working as a Community Services Worker.

This course is offered fully online over 14 weeks, and is a pathway qualification into the Community Services or Health Care sectors, and/or further study at Certificate III level in Individual Support (Aged and Disability specialisations).

Throughout the course, you’ll gain the entry level skills you’ll need for further study in the Disability, Aged Care and/or Community sectors, and learn about a range of learning and employment pathways, as well as how to develop a resume and portfolio.

You will gain an overview of the health care, aged care and disability sectors, and learn how to support a diverse range of individuals by providing a first point of contact. You’ll also learn how to organise and complete daily work activities and participate in workplace health and safety activities, and how to communicate and work effectively in Health or Community Services settings.

In this course, you’ll attend three teacher-facilitated sessions per week, as well as engage in regular online learning and discussion activities. You’ll also be required to attend a minimum of three compulsory online workshops.

It is extremely rewarding to work with Community Services or Health organisations to support people within our local community. To do well in this sector, you will need good communication skills, an ability to show empathy and a willingness to work with people.

On successful completion of this course, you will have the skills and knowledge you need to seek employment as a Community Services Worker. You also might like to continue your training and undertake further study in one of TasTAFE’s Certificate III courses with a progression pathway to Certificate IV or Diploma-level courses.
