Metal Trades

Love working with tools? Like solving problems?

The metal trades offer exciting career opportunities for enthusiastic and skilled workers. If you’re interested in changing technologies, enjoy practical activities and like problem solving then a career in this sector could be for you.

Most of your time will be spent with tools in your hands or behind the controls of a piece of machinery. In today’s workplace, you’ll also spend some of your time using a computer – you’ll need to look at plans and know how to interpret them.

Undertaking a qualification with TasTAFE in Metal Trades can lead to employment in Boilermaking, Welding, Fitting, Machining, Sheetmetal and Engineering. There are nationwide opportunities for employment in the sheet metal, general fabrication, stainless steel and/or aluminium welding, fabrication industries/construction sites, mining and agriculture and the oil and gas industries.

We can help you gain the skills you need to complete a nationally recognised trade qualification, which is highly transferable – meaning you’ll be able to seek work in a wide range of small and large businesses across Tasmania and Australia.

Whether you’re at the start of your career, looking to build on your current skills, or are making a complete change in direction – talk to us about our practical courses. We offer pre-employment and apprenticeship training in all of these areas as well as a wide range of certificate courses.

Let the real world training you’ll get at TasTAFE launch your next career move.

Please note, we deliver training to apprentices in the following qualifications:
