Building & Construction Trades

Nationwide skill shortages currently exist across the Building and Construction Trades sector, which means there is high demand and great career prospects for capable, enthusiastic and skilled workers. Opportunities are available in specific trades through to more senior supervisory and management roles.

Whether you’re keen to build new homes, are excited by large commercial projects like bridges, dams and power stations, or get a kick out of fixing things when they break down, chances are TasTAFE has the right course to get you the qualification you need.

Joshua Boon

As a Cabinet Making apprentice Joshua Boon used the skills he was learning at TasTAFE and his workplace, UCI Joinery, to gain selection in the Tasmanian team for the 2018 WorldSkills Australia National Championships. He won gold in the competition and was selected to represent Australia in Cabinet Making at the international competitions in Russia in 2019. He finished sixth in the world and gained a Medallion of Excellence.

Joshua enjoys sharing his skills with apprentices and would one day like to teach at TasTAFE.
