Unique Student Identifier

It is as unique as you are…

Everyone who undertakes accredited vocational education and training in Australia must hold a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

The USI is a unique number – just for you – which allows you to obtain a complete record of your training achievements from a single online source.

It means you cannot lose a qualification and makes it easier to keep track of your education and training history – which is great for when you need to apply for a job!

For accredited and non-accredited courses, we will also use your USI to confirm your identity, therefore you will not need to provide us with additional identification when you apply for your chosen course.

I need a USI. What do I do?

Visit the Unique Student Identifier website and follow the prompts.

You will need at least one or two forms of ID from the list below:

  • Driver’s Licence
  • Medicare Card
  • Australian Passport
  • Australian Birth Certificate
  • Citizenship Certificate
  • Visa (with Non-Australian Passport)
  • Certificate of Registration by Descent
  • ImmiCard

When you create your USI, please ensure your name is exactly as it appears on your form of ID.

Already have a USI?

Too easy! Just bring it with you at enrolment time.

Providing TasTAFE access to view your USI Transcript

You can supply the qualification records of any previous studies you have undertaken to get credits transferred into your qualification at TasTAFE (where applicable). TasTAFE needs to verify all the records to ensure we have an accurate record from the student.

You can go online and add permission for TasTAFE to view your transcripts from your USI account. Please follow these instructions to provide TasTAFE access to view your USI Transcript (Word 2.6MB).
