All applicants will need to:

• Complete a Basic Key Skills Builder (bksb) assessment and achieve a competency of at least Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) in both language and numeracy
• Complete the Informed choices: Self-Assessment
• Provide evidence of a National Police Check
• Participate in a Career conversation.

If English is your primary language, and your previous education was completed in one of the following countries: Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom or United States of America you will need to submit a TasTAFE Statutory Declaration (PDF) upon application.

All other applicants need to provide evidence of an in-date formal English language test demonstrating they have achieved the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) specified level of English language skills. The required results for relevant test are listed below:

• International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - minimum overall score of 7 and a minimum score of 7 in each of the four components (listening, reading, writing and speaking)
• Occupational English Test (OET) - minimum score of B in each of the four components (listening, reading, writing and speaking)
• Pearson’s Test of English (PTE) - minimum overall score of 65 and a minimum score of 65 in each of the four communicative skills (listening, reading, writing and speaking)
• Test of English as a Foreign Language/Internet-based test (TOELF-iBT) - minimum total score of 94 and the following minimum score in each section of the test:
  • 24 for listening
  • 24 for reading
  • 27 for writing, and
  • 23 for speaking.

All pieces of submitted evidence must be certified by a Commissioner of Declaration.

The fee you pay at TasTAFE will depend on the course you choose and may vary depending on the level of government subsidy available, the cost of delivery, any previous study you have undertaken and/or your personal circumstances. Your tuition fees cover the basic materials needed for your course, but may not cover items such as text books, workbooks, uniform, online learning resources or personal protective clothing. Depending on your course, there may also be other expenses that you need to budget for.

For this course, you will need to pay for the following items:

• Logoed scrubs (approx $80)
• A National Police Check (approx $45)
• Any vaccinations you require (cost will vary)
• Travel and accommodation may be required for placement, costs relating to this are the responsibility of the student.

For courses undertaken in 12 months or less, you will be invoiced the full course fee (including any other essential fees associated with your course).

*For courses studied over multiple years, your course and other fees will be split over the years of study, with the concession fee being charged on a yearly basis. At the time of enrolment you will be invoiced for the first year’s fees. An invoice will be raised in each subsequent year around the same time as your ‘enrolment anniversary’.

For this course, you will need:

• Access to a computer (not phone or tablet) and good internet connection. Our course content is in our Learning management System – Canvas, you will need a computer to navigate the content and upload assignments.
• Zoom is used for our tutorials, a microphone and camera are essential to allow participation.

You will need to supply evidence that you are vaccinated for the vaccine preventable diseases of measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), varicella, diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (dTpa), Hepatitis B with positive serology, Tuberculosis, Influenza.

Students will also require a current COVID-19 Vaccination.

Students are not able to commence placement unless they have provided this evidence. Please note that you will be responsible for any costs associated with meeting these requirements.

Successful completion of this course can lead to eligibility to apply for Enrolled Nurse registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA). Note - TasTAFE does not issue the NMBA registration and it is your responsibility to meet any additional requirements. These may include being 18 years of age, having a certain level of English proficiency.

On successful completion of this course you will receive a HLT54121 - Diploma of Nursing (Diploma of Nursing).
