Build the skills to confidently facilitate and assess learners in an online environment

This skill set is designed for trainers, assessors and industry professionals who want to effectively facilitate learning and conduct assessments in online environments. As digital learning continues to grow, this nationally recognised skill set provides the practical skills needed to engage learners and assess competence using a range of online platforms and digital tools.

You'll learn how to plan, organise, deliver and review online learning experiences, as well as gather assessment evidence using both live and self-paced methods. The program also develops your ability to conduct compliant, reliable and learner-focused assessments in virtual settings.

Whether you're expanding your digital capability or transitioning to online delivery, this skill set will help you create engaging learning experiences and deliver quality training and assessment wherever your learners are.

The skill set covered in this course is derived from units of competency within the broader TAE40122 - Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualification and provides an insight into the full qualification. Successful completion of these units can be used towards the full qualification.

Entry

Prior to enrolling in this training program, you must must be able to demonstrate an adequate level of language, literacy and numeracy skill, and vocational competency in your proposed teaching and assessing area. Vocational competence is defined as broad industry knowledge and experience, and may include holding a relevant unit of competency or qualification.

As part of your application, you will need to provide:

Evidence of achieving an ACSF Level 3 through the TasTAFE LLN Assessment.

Evidence of vocational competency in the area in which you intend to teach i.e. Certificate III in Commercial Cookery; Certificate IV in Engineering.

A current CV outlining your experience using this qualification.

Fees, payments and other costs

As the Training and Assessment qualifications and skill sets are commercial courses, a refund will only apply if you formally withdraw 72 hours prior to the commencement of the course. There is no refund once a course has commenced.

Recognition of prior learning and skills

TasTAFE can assess your skills and knowledge based on your previous education, work history or life experience – which may help you to gain your qualification a whole lot faster!

Assessment methods

Assessments are designed to help you demonstrate the skills and knowledge you learn in your course and are an essential part of your training. Assessments allow us to confirm that you can perform tasks to the standard required in the workplace, and that you can meet all of the requirements of your course.

While studying at TasTAFE, you may be assessed in a number of different ways. Some common assessment methods include:

completing workplace documents
observations on the job and/or in a simulated assessment environment
quizzes/multiple choice tests
research projects
tests – written or practical
verbal questioning
work samples
written assignments or short answers.

Desirable skills & attributes

The following skills and attributes will be useful to students studying this course:

Digital literacy skills, including word processing tasks such as saving, filing and retrieving documents, and completing templates.
Ability to use presentation software such as Microsoft PowerPoint.
Ability to use TasTAFE's Learning Management System (Canvas).
Ability to use communication tools such as email, Zoom and Skype.
Language, literacy and numeracy skills to research, read and interpret information.
Ability to deliver one-on-one and group-based training.
Ability to write a range of workplace and training-related documents.
