This course will provide you with knowledge of the underlying accounting concepts and theories that underpin all accounting practices and will prepare you for roles that include financial data entry, processing accounts and payroll, working in the financial services industry and producing financial reports.

Learn how to design and produce business documents, process financial transactions, perform financial calculations and administer subsidiary accounts and ledgers.

Successful completion of this course will prepare you to work effectively in an entry-level role within the Financial Services industry or undertake further study in the Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping.

Fees, payments and other costs

Your tuition fees cover the basic materials needed for your course, but will not cover the prescribed textbooks.

For this course, you will need to pay for textbooks (booklist with link to the publisher’s website, to be advised), or you may borrow the prescribed texts from a TasTAFE library (subject to availability).

Assessment methods

Assessments are designed to help you demonstrate the skills and knowledge you learn in your course and are an essential part of your training. Assessments allow us to confirm that you can perform tasks to the standard required in the workplace, and that you can meet all of the requirements of your course.

While studying at TasTAFE, you may be assessed in a number of different ways. Some common assessment methods include:

completing workplace documents
observations on the job and/or in a simulated assessment environment
quizzes/multiple choice tests
research projects
tests – written or practical
verbal questioning
work samples
written assignments or short answers.

basic literacy and numeracy skills
interest in finance and computer applications
successful participation in this course requires students to have a range of skills, including participating effectively in interactions, clearly articulating information and using questioning and active listening to clarify understanding .

What you will need

You will need access to a computer with a reliable internet connection and up-to-date software, including Office 365. If you do not have Office 365, all TasTAFE students can access this through the library webpage.

TasTAFE has computers available for student use during normal business hours, at all major campuses.
