TasTAFE and Launtel partner to increase digital access for learners

The Launtel and TasTAFE Scholarship will provide eligible learners with access to reliable, high-speed internet for the duration of their course.

TasTAFE is continuing to strengthen learner access to digital learning through a new partnership with Tasmanian internet service provider Launtel.

Building on initiatives that support flexible and connected learning, the new scholarship program will provide three eligible learners with access to reliable, high-speed internet for the duration of their course helping them get the most from their training and stay connected to the resources they need to succeed.

• one international student
• one student studying in the IT stream and,
• one student experiencing financial hardship or transitioning into or re-entering the workforce.

TasTAFE CEO Dr Norman Baker thanked Launtel for helping to ensure more learners can access the digital tools they need to succeed.

“This scholarship provides practical support to eligible students through access to reliable, high-speed internet during their studies at TasTAFE,” Dr Baker said.

“Having dependable internet access is essential for learning, particularly as more training resources and student services are delivered online. This scholarship will help learners stay connected, engaged and focused on achieving their goals.”

While internet connectivity is essential for education, learners in regional and remote areas often face higher costs and fewer service options than those in metropolitan centres. For households experiencing financial pressure, internet speed or data allowances are often reduced to manage costs.

“We speak to people every day who are trying to balance the rising cost of living with the absolute necessity of staying connected,” said Damian Ivereigh, Launtel’s founding owner and CEO.

“We wanted to step in and offer practical, tangible support to those who need it most. By removing the worry of a monthly bill, we hope these students can focus their energy exactly where it belongs, and that is on their education and their future.”

Mr Ivereigh said the scholarship is a community-driven alignment between two Tasmanian-focused organisations dedicated to local growth.

“TasTAFE students are the absolute future of our local industries. Whether they are training to be electricians, plumbers, or IT professionals, they are the people who keep our State running. Supporting them through this crucial phase of their lives is an absolute privilege for us.”

TasTAFE learners who commenced study in Semester 1 or Semester 2, 2026, are eligible to apply for the Launtel & TasTAFE Student Internet Scholarship. Applicants are encouraged to download the scholarship application pack and review the eligibility criteria, scholarship details, and terms and conditions before submitting their online application.

Applications are now open and close on 21 August 2026.
