Five TasTAFE-trained students were big winners at the 2023 Tasmanian Training Awards.

TasTAFE students Jake Chilcott (Apprentice of the Year), Bradley Maynard (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year), Catherine Jones (Trainee of the Year), Maryam Azizi (Equity Apprentice/Trainee of the Year) and Indiana Corbin (School-based Apprentice/Trainee of the Year) all took home awards on the night.

Jake is an Electrotechnology Electrician Apprentice at TasTAFE who is employed at Bell Bay Aluminium. As Apprentice of the Year, Jake was recognised as being outstanding in all aspects of his trade.

Bradley completed a Certificate IV in Work, Health and Safety (WHS) at TasTAFE while working for Crisp Bros & Haywards Pty Ltd. He was named the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year for demonstrating the relevance of lifelong learning and for his outstanding commitment to all aspects of his training.

Catherine took home Trainee of the Year after completing a Certificate III in Hospitality with TasTAFE. Catherine, who works at Cataract on Paterson, won the award for being outstanding in all aspects of her traineeship.

Maryam was recognised for overcoming significant barriers and disadvantage in undertaking and completing her Certificate III in Dental Assisting with TasTAFE. Through her study, she has gained employment with the Tasmanian Oral Health Service.

Indiana is 2023’s School-based Apprentice of the Year for her outstanding commitment to her formal studies at school and in the workplace. Indiana is completing a Certificate III in Patisserie with TasTAFE while studying at Rosny College.

Jake, Bradley, Catherine and Indiana will represent Tasmania at the Australian Training Awards in Hobart on Friday 17 November 2023.
