$2.6 million investment to boost clean energy training at TasTAFE

More Tasmanians will have access to training for emerging clean energy careers following a $2.6 million investment in TasTAFE's Alanvale Campus.

Funded through the Australian Government's Clean Energy Capital Investment Fund, the project will expand training facilities for electrotechnology, battery systems, solar technology and electric vehicles (EVs), helping to prepare the skilled workforce needed to support Tasmania's growing clean energy sector.

The upgrades will increase training capacity, improve safety and provide more opportunities for learners to gain practical, industry-relevant skills in areas expected to see strong future demand.

The investment will strengthen TasTAFE's ability to deliver contemporary training across electrotechnology and automotive industries and respond to evolving workforce needs across the state – with a focus on supporting the clean energy opportunity across Northern Tasmania.

The investment is complementary to the existing Water and Energy Trades Centre of Excellence at TasTAFE’s Clarence campus and $26.4 million Tasmanian Clean Energy Centre of Excellence commitment for TasTAFE’s Burnie campus (due for completion by the end of 2028).

TasTAFE Chief Executive Officer Dr Norman Baker said the investment would help ensure learners and industry were prepared for the opportunities emerging through Tasmania's energy transition.

"Tasmania's industries are changing, and so are the skills they need," Dr Baker said.

"This investment will strengthen our ability to deliver future-focused training and ensure more Tasmanians can access the skills needed for current and emerging industries, including the clean energy sector."

"As Tasmania's public training provider, we have an important role to play in building the workforce our state needs. These upgraded facilities will help us support learners, industry and communities as Tasmania's economy continues to evolve."

The project will support training in areas including solar technology, battery systems and electric vehicles, providing learners with access to contemporary facilities that reflect current and emerging industry practices.

Construction is expected to be completed by early 2028.
