Build confident, safe and ethical practice in community and health services settings

The Professional Practice and Well being Skill Set is designed to strengthen the essential professional behaviours required when working in community services, youth work and related health settings.

This course focuses on safe work practices, ethical decision making and reflective professional practice, supporting participants to work confidently within legal, organisational and practice frameworks while maintaining their own wellbeing at work.

It is ideal for current community services or youth work employees, volunteers, and support workers, as well as those seeking to refresh skills or gain recognition of current practice. Students who are working or volunteering in settings such as community organisations, schools, early learning services or non government organisations will find the course particularly relevant. During the course, learners develop the skills and knowledge to:

  • Work safely and follow workplace health and safety procedures
  • Reflect on professional practice to improve the support they provide to others
  • Apply legal, ethical and organisational frameworks in daily work
  • Manage personal stressors and maintain professional wellbeing

The course emphasises practical, workplace relevant learning that can be immediately applied in real work contexts.

This course is delivered over 10 weeks using a mixed-mode approach combining face to face workshops with online learning through Canvas. Learners can expect to commit approximately 6 hours per week, including attendance at five on-campus sessions throughout the course (totalling around 5 hours per fortnight), 2–3 hours per week completing online learning activities and resources, and approximately 1 hour per week for independent study and assessment preparation. This flexible delivery model is designed to support learners who are working or volunteering while studying.

Successful completion of this skill set may support entry into, or credit towards, further study such as Certificate IV in Community Services (CHC42021), Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work(CHC43515) and Diploma of Community Services (CHC52025).

Please Note:This skill set supports professional practice rather than a specific licensed role.
