Gain the skills and knowledge you need to shoot and harvest wild game animals.

This skill set is a mandatory requirement for anyone looking to gain employment in game harvesting.

In this course, you will gain an overview of the wild game meat industry, and learn how to use firearms to harvest wild game animals humanely, as well as how to operate a game harvesting vehicle safely and hygienically.

You’ll also learn how to appropriately maintain your knives, and eviscerate, inspect and tag wild game carcasses in the field, whilst applying good hygiene and sanitation practices.

This course is delivered flexibly, which means that you can enrol at any time of the year, and will have 12 months to complete the course, via a combination of independent and self-paced training, an online or face-to-face theory assessment, an in-field harvesting assessment and a final submission of evidence to demonstrate your skills and competency.

At the beginning of the course, you will be provided with workbooks that cover the learning content you need to complete the course, as well as a range of practical tasks to ensure that you are ready for your assessments.

On successful completion of this course, you will receive a Statement of Attainment for the skill set units completed, and have the skills you need to harvest animals humanely and operate in the commercial and regulatory environment of the game meat industry.

On completion of this course, you may then choose to apply to the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment (DPIPWE) for a Commercial Harvester Licence – which will allow you to sell wild game animal carcasses to an accredited pet food or game-for-human consumption premises.
