Are you passionate about pursuing a specialist wool classing career in the Wool industry?

Wool classing can be a physically demanding job, requiring you to handle and work with wool for an eight-hour working day. So, if you have a reasonable level of fitness and enjoy a rural lifestyle… you might want to look at a career in Wool Classing.

This course is designed for those who are working in the shearing industry or have had experience in the industry and have access to shearing sheds to complete practical component of training. It is also suitable if you need to bolster your skills to prepare your own wool at shearing time.

In this course you will learn to determine the required wool classing strategies, document the wool clip and review the wool harvesting operation. You will also learn how to manage a wool harvesting team and establish the workplace quality assurance, animal welfare and work health and safety requirements. Throughout the course you will gain the skills to perform all shed duties, provide first aid and prepare and package fleece wool and oddments.

This workplace-based course is delivered as a statewide program, and learners are expected to travel for classes both on campus and off-site locations in northern Tasmania.

Workplace-based training relies on the learner’s employer to provide opportunities for practice and experience on the job. The contact days with TasTAFE alone are not sufficient to pass this course. Learners need to be working in industry and apply the learning in the workplace, preferably under the supervision of a qualified Wool Classer.

On successful completion of this course, you will be qualified to seek work as a specialist Wool Classer after applying for registration with AWEX Ltd. as a professional Australian Wool Classer.
