The Tasmanian Clean Energy Centre of Excellence will be located at TasTAFE’s Burnie Campus. The Centre’s focus is training in technologies to meet local and national needs for the transition to a net-zero economy.
The project is a joint initiative funded by the Australian and Tasmanian Governments under the National Skills Agreement.
The Centre of Excellence builds on TasTAFE’s commitment to deliver modern training using state-of-the-art technology at the Water and Energy Trades Centre of Excellence at Clarence Campus in Hobart, and the Agricultural Training Centre of Excellence in Burnie.
The new Clean Energy Centre of Excellence will support growth in the clean energy sector by attracting and training more Tasmanians for a career in clean energy and related trades. It will enable TasTAFE to deliver innovative, practical training in partnership with industry to meet current and future needs.
The Centre plays a crucial role in helping Australia meet its goal of net zero emissions by 2050. The project represents a significant investment in contemporary equipment for training in the design, construction and maintenance of renewable energy infrastructure.
The Clean Energy Centre of Excellence is also supported by new student accommodation at the Burnie Campus, delivered to enable all Tasmanians to complete their studies at the new facilities.

What will the Clean Energy Centre of Excellence deliver?
The Tasmanian Clean Energy Centre of Excellence will deliver training for skills in areas including:
- Electrotechnology and instrumentation trade training
- Training learners in skills to enter the clean energy workforce through related trades.
