To be eligible for a Fee-Free place you must be:
- a resident of Tasmania or working in Tasmania
- an Australian or New Zealand citizen, an Australian permanent resident, an eligible VISA holder, and
- of working age

Fee-Free* TAFE is a joint initiative of the Australian and Tasmanian Governments, providing tuition-free training places to eligible Tasmanians wanting to train, retrain or upskill. Places are limited and not guaranteed and applying early is recommended. The number of funded Fee Free* places on offer at TasTAFE are determined by the Australian and Tasmanian Governments.
Note:
- You can only enrol in one Fee-Free TAFE product in 2026.
- People currently studying in the school system (up to Year 12) or undertaking a traineeship or apprenticeship are not eligible for Fee-Free TAFE.

Careers in this industry are dynamic, with employers looking for staff who are professional, organised, able to multitask and communicate clearly.
In this course, you will gain the skills and knowledge you need to seek employment in an entry level role in a hotel as a Front Office Receptionist. You will learn how to manage reservations, check daily arrivals, allocate accommodation rooms and complete relevant check in documentation.
You will also learn how to use an online booking system, determine the availability of accommodation, and offer alternatives, as well as accurately record the reservation details and administer the reservation through to finalisation.
This course is delivered over a 6-week period and involves online learning, practical activities on campus and potential opportunities for work placement. On successful completion of this course, you will receive a Statement of Attainment for the units completed.
