Build your future in the construction industry
Step up into a supervisory role or become a licensed builder with the Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building). This nationally recognised qualification is ideal for aspiring builders and site supervisors working on residential and light commercial construction projects..
You'll develop the skills to confidently manage builds of Class 1 and 10 buildings (up to two storeys) and Class 2 - 9 Type C structures. You'll learn how to read and interpret plans, apply structural principles, manage safety, administer contracts, and meet building codes and compliance requirements.
In this course, you’ll gain practical, job-ready skills to:
- apply building codes, standards and structural principles
- read and interpret construction drawings and site plans
- plan, schedule and supervise construction work
- estimate costs and administer contracts
- apply WHS practices on construction sites
- manage materials, quality control and team communication
- conduct site surveys and set-out procedures
Training is delivered through a mix of classroom-based learning, simulated workplace environments and practical activities that reflect real-world building projects.
This course is delivered over 68 weeks of learning, with a total duration of approximately 18–19 months. Training takes place face to face on campus every Monday from around 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm.
In addition to the weekly sessions, students are expected to complete 4–6 hours of self-paced study each week to support their learning and assessment requirements. The qualification includes a total of 900 student hours, comprising 270 hours of supervised learning, 290 hours of unsupervised learning and assessment, and 340 hours of workplace-based activities.
