Short Course Teen Mental Health First Aid
Teen Mental Health First Aid is a course specifically for teenagers. It provides young people with the skills they need to be able to recognise the signs of mental health problems and seek the help of a trusted adult. This workshop is commonly delivered to schools and other organisations working closely with teenagers, such as sporting clubs and community groups.
Teenagers will often turn to each other in times of stress, and many will take on the problems of their peers. In this course we encourage young people not to take on these problems alone, but focus on how to be a supportive friend and know when it’s time to get an adult involved.
Delivered over three 75 minute sessions, the Teen Mental Health First Aid course helps participants learn how to:
- Recognise the signs of a developing mental health problem.
- Recognise the signs of a mental health crisis, particularly suicide.
- Get a responsible and trusted adult to take over as necessary.
Important Note: Schools and other organisations hosting this course must confirm a minimum of 10% of their staff working with teenagers are trained in Youth Mental Health First Aid before this course can be delivered. This help ensure adequate support is available for young people in their care.
