Short Course Teen Mental Health First Aid
The NONM0957A Teen Mental Health First Aid is a workshop that teaches teenagers how to identify signs of mental illness and encourages them to talk to a trusted adult. This workshop is delivered to schools and other organisations involved with teenagers in recognition that young people have a preference for sharing problems with peers and focuses on the pattern of thoughts, feelings and behaviours that show there might be a problem rather than focusing on specific illnesses.
Teen Mental Health First Aid course helps participants learn how to:
- recognise the signs of a developing mental health problem;
- recognise the signs of a mental health crisis, particularly suicide;
- get a responsible and trusted adult to take over as necessary.
Important Note: 10% of staff working with teenagers need to be trained in Youth Mental Health First Aid before this workshop can be delivered.
