Take the first step towards your culinary career and learn the basics in food preparation and food hygiene.
This course is ideal for anyone that wants to enter the hospitality industry, and provides the essential kitchen skills you’ll need to work in businesses where food is prepared and served, including restaurants, hotels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafes, cafeterias and coffee shops.
In this course, you’ll learn how to undertake a range of basic kitchen functions and activities. You’ll learn how to follow hygiene procedures and identify food hazards, and how to report any health issues, as well as how to prevent food contamination and cross-contamination.
Throughout the course, you will gain hands-on experience in using food preparation equipment – including how to use it, and how to clean and maintain the equipment properly. You will also gain the skills and knowledge you need to maintain the quality of perishable items.
This course also covers the skills and knowledge you’ll need to incorporate safe work practices into workplace activities.
On successful completion of this course, you will receive a Statement of Attainment for the units completed.
This skill set can also form a pathway to SIT20416 – Certificate II in Kitchen Operations, or an Apprenticeship pathway through to SIT30816 – Certificate III in Commercial Cookery.
