Provide teenagers with the skills they need to be able to recognise the signs of mental health problems and seek the help of a trusted adult.

Teen Mental Health First Aid is a course designed specifically for teenagers, and aims to provide young people with the skills they need to be able to recognise the signs of mental health problems and seek the help of a trusted adult.

This workshop is commonly delivered to schools and other organisations working closely with teenagers such as sporting clubs and community groups.

Teenagers will often turn to each other in times of stress, and many will take on the problems of their peers. In this course, we encourage young people not to take on these problems alone, but instead focus on how to be a supportive friend and know when it’s time to get an adult involved.

Delivered over three 75-minute sessions, the Teen Mental Health First Aid course helps participants learn how to recognise the signs of a developing mental health problem, the signs of a mental health crisis (particularly suicide) and when to get a responsible and trusted adult to take over, as necessary.

IMPORTANT: Schools and other organisations hosting this course must confirm a minimum of 10% of their staff working with teenagers are trained in Youth Mental Health First Aid before this course can be delivered. This helps ensure adequate support is available for young people in their care.

On successful completion of this short course, you will receive a Certificate of Completion. You will also receive a copy of the Teen Mental Health First Aid Manual.
