Introduction to Welding Processes (Skill Set)

Learn basic welding skills in manual metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding and oxy acetylene welding.

Units of competence offered include:

  • Perform Manual Heating And Thermal Cutting (MEM05007C)
  • Perform Routine Manual Metal Arc Welding (MEM05012C)
  • Perform Routine Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (MEM05049B)
  • Perform Routine Gas Metal Arc Welding (MEM05050B)
  • MEM13014A  Apply Principles Of Occupational Health And Safety In The Work Environment

  • Bender Drive:  commencing 31 January 2018 – 5.30pm to 8.30pm
  • Alanvale Campus:  commencing week beginning 19 February 2018 – 5.30pm to 8.30pm (day to be advised)

Basic Fabrication Skill Set

Learn basic fabrication skills in sheet and plate assembly and gas metal arc welding.

Units of competence offered include:

  • Perform Sheet and Plate Assembly (MEM03003B)
  • Perform routine gas metal arc welding (MEM05050B)
  • Apply principles of occupational health and safety in the work environment (MEM13014A)
  • Use hand tools (MEM18001C)
  • Use power tools/hand held operations (MEM18002B)

Dates and Times

  • Bender Drive:  Rolling Intake commencing 31 January 2018 – 5.30pm to 8.30pm
  • Alanvale Campus:  commencing week beginning 19 February 2018 – 5.30pm to 8.30pm (day to be advised)
  • Devonport Campus:  commencing week beginning 19 February 2018 for 18 weeks – 5.30pm to 9.30pm (day to be advised)

Students who complete the Introduction to Welding Processes Skill Set and continue onto the Basic Fabrication Skill Set will receive credit transfer for Perform Routine Gas Metal Arc Welding (MEM05050B) and Apply Principles Of Occupational Health And Safety In The Work Environment (MEM13014A) and may complete the skill set in less time.

Advanced Welding Certification (Post Trades)

TasTAFE is offering commercial courses in Flux Cored Arc Welding, Gas Metal Arc Welding, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding and Manual Metal Arc Welding – Pipe which meet AS1796.
This is for current engineering trades people

Units of competence offered include:

  • Apply welding principles MEM05026C  (Theory)
  • Perform Welds To Code Standards Using Gas Metal Arc Welding Process MEM05043B  (MIG)
  • Perform Welds To Code Standards Using Gas Tungsten Arc Welding Process MEM05044B  (TIG)
  • Perform Pipe Welds To Code Standards Using Manual Metal Arc Welding Process MEM05045B  (Stick-pipe)
