Plumbing & Electrical

Nationwide skill shortages currently exist across the Electrotechnology and Plumbing sectors, which means there are great career prospects for capable, enthusiastic and skilled workers in these areas.

As the building, construction and tourism industries continue to go from strength to strength in Tasmania, Electricians and Plumbers remain in high demand to install, maintain and repair residential and commercial properties. Opportunities are available in specific trades through to more senior supervisory and management roles, as well as apprenticeships.

Marek Porter

Marek Porter was a wood machinist and joiner, who at the age of 35, decided to follow a passion for the industrial electrical industry and enrolled in a Certificate III in Electrotechnology at TasTAFE. Marek is employed by NECA Education and Careers at host employer, RBD Electrical and Instrumentation.

He says his apprenticeship has allowed him to work across a number of different industrial sites including for Hydro Tasmania and Simplot Australia. Marek was named 2019 Apprentice of the Year at the Tasmanian Training Awards and won the 2019 Apprentice Industrial category at the NECA National Excellence, Apprentice and Trade Teacher Awards.
