Skill Set CPCSS00004 provide building surveying services for residential buildings up to 3 storeys

This Skill Set is part of the CPC Construction, Plumbing and Services Training Package version 1.1

The Skill Set covers the competencies required by building surveyors or certifiers who apply knowledge of compliance requirements and construction methods and materials to the implementation of statutory building surveying requirements or to the provision of advisory building surveying services.

It applies to services provided for Class 1 and 10 buildings and structures as defined in the Building Code of Australia (BCA), up to three storeys and not more than 2000 square metres in floor area.

The target participants for this training product are for people currently working as, or intending to work as, private or municipal building surveyors specifically on Class 1 and Class 10 buildings and structures as defined in the BCA.

We provide nationally accredited building surveying programs in Australia and have clients in every state.

Students intending on enrolling will be asked to undergo a Suitability Activity.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of this Skill Set and who meet the requirements stated by regulatory bodies in each State or Territory may be registered as, for example, a Level 3 Assistant Building Surveyor or Building Inspector or similar and gain employment working with higher level Building Surveyors or in a range of organisations, such as local government organisations. (Please note, it is essential to refer to state regulatory authorities in relation to employment pathways for graduates of the skill set as these are still being developed in each state.)

Further Study Pathways

The completion of this skill set provides a pathway to the CPC60115 Advanced Diploma of Building Surveying. Graduates of the Advanced Diploma may continue on to a post graduate or graduate degree in Building Surveying or a related qualification.

  • Field based activities alongside registered Building Surveyors and other professionals from the Building Industry (please note, this is not a formal process managed by TasTAFE but one managed by the student.)
  • Staff from the Built Environment and Engineering team, are available to advise you on study and assessment. All of our teaching staff have had extensive work experience within, and in conjunction with, building surveying. In addition to this, our staff also hold a variety of professional and technical qualifications relevant to building surveying.

Approximate costs for this Skill Set are:

  • Government Subsidised (Tasmanian) students – $2,334
  • Commercial* (Students not in Tasmania) students – $10,670
    * Commercial students who already hold a previous Building Surveying qualification may be eligible for a discount.

Students must successfully complete 7 units of competency for this Skill Set.
