SHB40115 Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy is part of the Beauty Training Package. It enables students to develop the skills to competently prescribe a range of beauty therapy treatments and services, including facial massage, lash and brow treatments, nail technology services, make-up, waxing, body massage and aromatherapy; as well as providing advice on and selling retail skin care and cosmetic products.

This dual qualification is delivered in student salons offering beauty services to the public including waxing treatments, manicures and pedicures, advanced facials, specialised make-up, lash and brow/tinting services and nail enhancements.

It also provides underpinning scientific knowledge and the skills to develop personalised interactions between the client and the therapist. Beauty comes from within!

What does the course involve?

If you are passionate about working in the Beauty Industry this is the course for you. This course provides you with a safe and practical, simulated salon environment where you will be trained in the most popular salon treatments. These include:

  • waxing
  • manicures and pedicures
  • nail science, nail enhancement
  • make-up
  • lash, brow and tinting services

Further, the higher level units will focus on developing treatment plans, advanced facials, skin science, anatomy and physiology of the skin, nutrition, cosmetic chemistry and electricity in relation to beauty therapy products and treatments.

Learning Options

This course is holistically delivered utilising live models in order to gain the skills and knowledge for a career as a beautician. It will involve practical demonstrations, work-based projects, WebCT activities and facilitated delivery for theoretical concepts. Students will be required to undertake some studies in a self-paced and/or supported learning environment.

Resources and Equipment

Protective Clothing
It is a compulsory requirement that students wear ‘closed in’ black shoes and their uniform at all times whilst undertaking Beauty units.

Course Materials & Products
TasTAFE will provide a comprehensive range of beauty materials and products for these courses. Students will be required to purchase Beauty Kits depending upon the qualification being delivered.

Fees and Payments

Full Fee:   $2,583
Full Fee Concession:  $370

Plus Kit:  $1,395
Professional Beauty Kit which is likely to include: Manicure & Pedicure Set, Gel Nails Kit and Acrylic Nails Kit.

Because the Government provides generous levels of support to enable TasTAFE to offer much of its training on a subsidised basis, you may not have to pay the maximum fee. Your eligibility for a fee subsidy or a concession will be determined at the time of enrolment, and your overall tuition fee will depend on your individual circumstances.

Pre-requisites

Applicants need to display a great level of maturity and demonstrate an ability to work intimately with people of all ages and backgrounds. Students must have sufficient literacy, numeracy and visual interpretation skills and possess excellent people skills.

Qualification Requirements

Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy requires successful completion of 19 units of competency, comprising of 13 core and a minimum of 6 elective units.
