Skill Set Racing Licenses

Industry Training

Effective from 1 August 2013, the following four unit skill set will replace the requirement for participants to complete RGR30208 Certificate III in Racing (Advanced Stablehand).

This skill set has been identified as the minimum requirement for harness trainers and drivers:

  1. RGRPSH201A   Handle horses
  2. RGRCMN201A  Follow OHS procedures and observe environmental work practices
  3. RGRCMN001A  Comply with the Rules of Racing and other related protocols
  4. RGRPSH203A  Perform basic driving tasks

The licensing requirements for a stablehand remains unchanged and this requires the completion of the two unit skill set:

  1. RGRPSH201A  Handle horses
  2. RGRCMN201A  Follow OHS procedures and observe environmental work practices

For participants who intend to upgrade their license from a stablehand category to trainer or driver, this process will require completion of the two additional units of competency to complete the four unit skill set:

  1. RGRCMN001A  Comply with the Rules of Racing and other related protocols
  2. RGRPSH203A   Perform basic driving tasks

Qualification Requirements

Statement of Attainment for units completed from either Certificate II in Racing (Stablehand) (RGR20108) OR Certificate III in Racing (Advanced Stablehand) (RGR30208)
