  • Combination of classroom theory and practical sessions in local orchards

This course involves:

  • one day per week working with food producing experts on their properties
  • one day per week classroom based theory/practical in modern facilities
  • possible work placements with organic and conventional producers including berries, cherries, cider, saffron, apples, mushrooms, pears, essential oils, nurseries, herb and vegetables

Certificate II in Production Horticulture is for people who are currently employed in a rural workplace or have access to a rural property and is available to both Apprentices and Non-Apprentices. You could complete the full Certificate II in Production Horticulture within fifteen (15) months on the job. Depending on you and your employer’s needs, learning may be on-the-job, off-the-job or a combination of both.

Fees and Payments

Full Fee:  $1,086
Full Fee Concession:  $338
Subsidised Fee:  $905
Subsidised Concession:  $283

Because the Government provides generous levels of support to enable TasTAFE to offer much of its training on a subsidised basis, you may not have to pay the maximum fee. Your eligibility for a fee subsidy or a concession will be determined at the time of enrolment, and your overall tuition fee will depend on your individual circumstances.

Please note the majority of people who have not completed a Certificate III or above in the last five years are subsidised students

Students are not eligible for a refund if they withdraw from the course after completing a unit or after undertaking more than 20% of the course.

Qualification Requirements

To achieve a Certificate II in Production Horticulture 15 units must be successfully completed, consisting of 1 core units and 14 elective units.

Electives will vary between regions.
