This qualification reflects the role of individuals who perform a range of tasks relating to servicing and repairing air conditioning components and systems of cars and heavy vehicles in an automotive service and repair business.

AUR20218 Certificate II in Automotive Air Conditioning Technology prepares new or existing employees for work in the air conditioning service and repair industry. This course is a requirement to apply for an Australian Refrigeration Council (ARCtick) – Refrigeration Handling Licence.

This course is for people who are currently employed in the automotive industry. To enrol in this course, you must be employed in the industry either under a contract of training (apprentice or school based apprentice) or as a non-apprentice and have access to a relevant workplace.

This course is available to mechanical trades and auto body trades.

Duration:   For tradespeople or apprentices undertaking a Certificate III qualification – 3 days, Tuesday to Thursday – 8am to 4:30pm.

This course may be delivered via the following study mode:

  • Workplace/Workshops (on the job training and campus based classes)
  • Workshop/Online (consists of 1 X 3 day workshop and online study)

Assessments are designed to help you demonstrate your skills and knowledge. They allow us to confirm you can perform to the standard required in the workplace, to meet all of the requirements of the course.

What will I need to bring?

Students will need to provide their own Personal Protective Equipment, which includes.

  • Safety glasses – required to meet Australian Standards AS1337 and have clear lenses
  • Safety Footwear (steel cap toe)
  • Combination overalls
  • Optional – Hearing protection (ear muffs/ear plugs)
  • Optional – Hand protection (gloves)

There are no essential entry requirements for this course.

Work Placements, Licensing and Other Requirements

To undertake this course students will first need to apply for a Australian Refrigeration Council (ARCtick) Trainee License prior to undertaking the training and assessment.

Successful completion of this course can lead to eligibility to apply for Australian Refrigeration Council (ARCtick) Air-conditioning Handling License.   Please note that TasTAFE do not issue the license and that it is your responsibility to meet any additional requirements.   Further details can be found here the Australian Refrigeration Council website.
