Rev up your motorcycle engine and get the training you need to kick start your career as a qualified Motorcycle Technician.

This nationally recognised qualification will prepare you with the skills and knowledge you need as a new employee entering the automotive industry, and is also ideal if you are an existing worker looking to further develop your skills or gain formal recognition for the work you already do.

In this hands-on, entry-level course, you will cover the skills and knowledge you need to perform service and repair tasks on a wide range of motorcycles, and how to use and maintain tools and equipment in an automotive workplace.

You’ll learn how to follow safe working practices in an automotive workplace, and test and repair basic electrical circuits, as well as diagnose and repair spark ignition engine management systems and learn how to test, charge and replace batteries and jump-start a motorcycle. You’ll also learn how to carry out a range of diagnostic procedures, including diagnosing and repairing motorcycle charging, starting, ignition, braking, suspension and steering systems, and diagnosing and repairing motorcycle engines and driveline systems, motorcycle clutch systems and cooling systems.

Throughout the course you will also learn how to diagnose and repair manual transmissions, as well as inspect and service braking systems and engines, and petrol fuel systems, as well as diagnose and repair petrol carburettor systems, final drive assemblies and drive shafts. On successful completion of this course, you will have gained the wide range of technical skills, knowledge and practical experience you’ll need to undertake work as a qualified Motorcycle Technician. This course will also set you on the path to further employment opportunities in more specialised diagnostic, servicing, repair and maintenance roles, or you might be interested in continuing your training at TasTAFE and going on to undertake a related qualification in Automotive Electrical Technology, Outdoor Power Equipment, or Light Vehicle or Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology.
