Get the training you need to become a qualified Mobile Plant Technician and pursue a career working on a wide range of mobile heavy equipment including highway transport vehicles, construction and earth moving equipment, tractors and mobile industrial equipment.
This nationally recognised qualification will prepare you with the skills and knowledge you need as a new employee entering the industry, and is also ideal if you are an existing worker looking to further develop your skills or gain formal recognition for the work you already do.
This course covers the skills and knowledge you need to perform a broad range of service and repair tasks on heavy mobile plant equipment used widely in the mining, construction, earthmoving and rural industries.
In this course, you will learn how to use and maintain a range of tools and equipment and follow safe working practices, while carrying out diagnostic procedures and servicing operations for a range of heavy mobile plant equipment. You’ll learn how to test and repair basic electrical circuits and diagnose and repair compression ignition engine management systems, as well as test, charge and replace batteries, and jump-start vehicles.
You’ll also learn how to diagnose and repair charging and starting systems, heavy vehicle compression ignition engines, diesel fuel injection systems, and how to inspect, service and repair track type drive and support systems. Throughout the course, you will also gain hands-on experience in diagnosing and repairing mobile plant hydraulic, braking and steering systems, final drive assemblies and powershift transmissions, as well as working on cooling systems, engine forced-induction systems and hydrostatic transmissions.
This course is designed for people who are currently employed within the Automotive Service and Repair sector. To undertake this course, you must have access to a suitable workplace for the practical components of the course and be supervised at your workplace by an appropriately experienced or qualified trades person who is able to sign-off on the workplace practical tasks.
On successful completion of this course, you will have the skills you need to service, repair and maintain a wide range of mobile heavy equipment including highway transport vehicles, construction and earth moving equipment, tractors and mobile industrial equipment. You’ll also be well-equipped to seek employment as a qualified Mobile Plant Tradesperson with the skills and experience employers are looking for across a wide range of industries including Mining, Construction, Earthmoving and Agriculture, and of course, Automotive! You may also like to continue your training with a related course at TasTAFE in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology, or expand your skills with a qualification in Light Vehicle Mechanical, Motorcycle, Outdoor Power Equipment or Automotive Electrical Technology at Certificate III-level.
