Do you love big trucks and the deep roar of a finely tuned engine…? Get the training you need to become a qualified Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanic and make a wheely big start to your career in the Automotive service and repair industry.

This nationally recognised qualification will prepare you with the skills and knowledge you need as a new employee entering the automotive industry, and is also ideal if you are an existing worker looking to further develop your skills or gain formal recognition for the work you already do on heavy commercial vehicles such as trucks, buses, earthmoving equipment or agricultural machinery.

In this course, you will cover the skills and knowledge you need to perform a broad range of tasks on a variety of heavy commercial vehicles in the automotive service and repair industry.

You’ll learn how to use and maintain tools and equipment and follow environmental and sustainability best practice in an automotive workplace, and undertake a range of testing and repair work on a range of heavy commercial vehicle systems, as well as carrying out servicing operations and diagnostic procedures. You’ll learn how to test and repair basic electrical circuits, test, charge and replace batteries, and jump-start heavy commercial vehicles, as well as how to diagnose and repair heavy commercial vehicle dynamic control systems and compression ignition engine management systems, air braking systems, heavy commercial vehicle steering and suspension, charging, starting and cooling systems, and how to inspect and service hydraulic systems.

Throughout this course, you’ll gain experience in diagnosing and repairing heavy vehicle drive shafts and emission control systems, as well as how to inspect and service diesel fuel injection systems and final drive assemblies. You’ll also learn how to diagnose and repair heavy vehicle compression ignition engines and engine forced-induction systems.

This course is designed for people who are currently employed within the Automotive Service and Repair sector. To undertake this course, you must have access to a suitable workplace for the practical components of the course and be supervised at your workplace by an appropriately experienced or qualified trades person who is able to sign-off on the workplace practical tasks.

On successful completion of this course, you will have the skills and knowledge you need to service and repair a variety of heavy commercial vehicles as a qualified Heavy Commercial Vehicle Technician.

This course is also available as an Australian Apprenticeship.
