This on-the-job course is ideal if you have just commenced employment within the horticulture industry and may be a good starting point for the beginning of your career.
As an entry-level qualification this will enable you to work under supervision to develop the basic skills and knowledge on the job you’ll need for a career in Horticulture. The course is suitable if you have no previous connection or experience in the Horticulture industry or relevant employment history, and is also ideal for VET in Schools students. There may be some on campus learning associated with this course.
The horticultural sector includes everything from plant care to landscape management, and is currently experiencing strong growth, with more than 50,000 job openings expected in nurseries and gardens across Australia over the next five years.
In this course, you will learn to work safely, follow basic chemical safety rules and assist with routine operation and maintenance of basic machinery and equipment, as well as help maintain your workplace, and support basic nursery or gardening work.
On successful completion of this course, you will have the skills and knowledge you need to undertake preliminary work within the Horticulture industry, or undertake further study at TasTAFE with AHC20416 – Certificate II in Horticulture.
Note – to undertake this entry-level course, you must be a workplace trainee/school-based trainee, or have access to a workplace.
