TasTAFE Teaching Opportunities

Still love your trade/profession but looking for a career change? Have you thought about combining your skills and knowledge and becoming a vocational education teacher?

TasTAFE is currently on the search to find enthusiastic and passionate individuals who have in-depth knowledge and skills in their chosen trade/profession. It‘s the perfect career change – you’ll be supporting your industry, and using what you know to teach others!

A bit about us: TasTAFE is the Tasmanian public vocational education and training provider and we train around 25,000 students across 12 campuses each year. Around 800 people work for TasTAFE, and we pride ourselves on delivering quality training to the Tasmanian community.

From out of state? Why not consider moving to Tasmania!

We may be slightly biased but we believe living and working in Tasmania provides a lifestyle second to none.
Here’s five reasons why you should consider applying for a teaching position with us:

1: Lifestyle – Quieter and more relaxed to the mainland, you’ll enjoy a slower pace (less time spent in traffic!), enabling you to spend more time enjoying what’s important to you

2: Community – our state may be small in size and population but our sense of community is strong. We are a friendly and welcoming bunch. Tasmania provides a safe environment – the ideal place to raise a family

3: Affordability – owning your own piece of paradise is possible. Tasmania’s housing and living costs make us one of the most affordable states to live in Australia

4: Nature – whether the oceans or the mountains are your calling, access to some of the world’s best beaches and forests are within short driving distance wherever you are

5: Culture – renowned for fine food, fresh produce, wine and craft beers, along with a growing arts and festival movement, there is always something to do.

Teaching Positions

TasTAFE regularly advertises teaching positions, however due to buoyant conditions across a number of industry sectors a new teaching position ‘teacher under supervision’ has been developed.

What is a teacher under supervision? It’s an industry specialist who doesn’t have a teaching qualification. You’ll be appointed without a teaching qualification and partnered with a qualified assessor. You’ll also be assigned a member of the teacher education team to support you to gain your teaching qualification. Once you have gained your TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment you’ll become a fully qualified teacher.

Salary: This is negotiated according to the existing teachers’ award and recognises your level of industry experience.

Annual leave: TAFE teachers attract eleven weeks annual leave.
